HBA introduces its first Remodeling Show Sept. 22-24

Posted online

The Remodelors Council of the Home Builders Association of Greater Springfield is sponsoring its first Remodeling Show Sept. 22-24 at the University Plaza Trade Center.

While this is the first show of its kind in Springfield, HBA Executive Officer Louise Henson said she expects it will become an annual event.

"We're anticipating that this is the first annual show," she said. "The remodeling side of the construction industry is growing rapidly."

Henson said the idea for a trade show that focuses on remodeling was the result of growth in the industry.

"More and more people are opting to remodel for a variety of reasons," she said. "Many times, people like their home and neighborhood but need to make a few changes or additions," Henson said.

"Locally, people are buying older homes and remodeling them to bring them up to today's standards. They're making their home more livable while maintaining the architectural integrity of the building. Even though remodeling is costly, it is oftentimes less costly than building an entire new home."

Booth space is available until the show opens at 1 p.m. Sept. 22. About 75 percent of the available space has been sold to exhibitors including contractors, suppliers and others in the remodeling industry.

Henson said the HBA's shows are non-selling shows."No one can leave with product, but they will get a myriad of ideas and questions answered concerning remodeling," she said.

"We keep our shows non-selling so the public will not feel pressured to buy. We want this to be an educational experience for the public. We encourage people to come and see the quality that's available, as well as the new technologies and new products available."

Tickets for the show are $3 per person for those 12 years and older and can be purchased at the door. An event pass is $5 and allows the passholder to attend the show on all three days. Hours of the event are 1-9 p.m. Sept. 22, 10 a.m.-8 p.m. Sept. 23 and 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Sept. 24.
