The Home Builders Association of Greater Springfield's Coalition for Building a Better Tomorrow announced it has surpassed its first-year fundraising goal of $100,000.
According to an announcement by the HBA, $100,895 was raised by the coalition, which serves as the HBA's political action committee.
"A political committee like this one, in the Springfield area, would ordinarily hope to reach a point where it could eventually raise about $25,000 per year," said Sam Bradley, chairman of the coalition and a Springfield home builder. "That the CBBT has more than quadrupled that figure in its first year speaks to the commitment our members have made to standing behind the issues and candidates who share our vision."
Bradley said the results show that home builders in the area are serious about the coalition's efforts. The coalition was organized in May 2001.
The contributions came from members of the HBA, as well as concerned members of the community that favor promotion of smart growth, affordable housing and environmentally sound policies, the annoucement stated.
Its board of trustees will meet later this year to determine which candidates and/or ballot initiatives will garner financial support from the proceeds.
The coalition will host its first golf tournament June 24 at Rivercut Golf Course.
