Sen. Josh Hawley, R-Missouri, introduced a plan to significantly overhaul the Federal Trade Commission.
His plan calls on the FTC to operate within the Department of Justice and to be run by a single Senate-confirmed director. It's currently run by a panel of five commissioners.
“The FTC has stood by as major corporations have consolidated their power and stifled competition,” Hawley said. “The agency as presently constituted is in no shape to ensure competition in today’s markets, let alone tomorrow’s.”
The proposal specifically calls out Google and Facebook.
