The Department of Education is investigating Harvard University's legacy admissions.
The department's Office for Civil Rights is investing potential violations of Title VI, which prohibits programs or activities receiving federal funding from the Education Department to discriminate on the basis of race, color or nationality.
Three civil rights organizations have alleged that Harvard discriminates on the basis of race by preferring candidates with alumni or donor connections, according to Quartz.
