A new Hampton Inn & Suites is being built at 2750 North Glenstone, and it should be open for business by the end of July, according to Shelly Ferry, general manager of the new lodging facility.
Ferry said Branson-based Combs Hospitality owns the new hotel. She added that while the company owns other hotels in Branson, this is its first venture into the Springfield market.
A Springfield native, Ferry previously managed the Hampton Inn near Chestnut Expressway and Highway 65, which is owned by another company, and she also managed the Hampton Inn on the Highway 76 strip in Branson for seven years before leaving there to work for Combs Hospitality.
But she said the new Hampton Inn & Suites will be different from the other Hampton Inns because the new hotel will have 25 two-room suites.
Ferry said the Hilton Corporation, which owns the Hampton Inn name, does market studies before it will consider letting a franchisee open a new location.
"They did a market study and it showed that, yes, there was a need for another Hampton Inn, especially this new concept, the Hampton Inn & Suites, because there's not one in this area," Ferry said.
As for the location, Ferry said that, in addition to being in close proximity to several restaurants, guests at the new Hampton Inn & Suites will have easy access to Interstate 44 and will be close to the interchange at Highway 65.
The new hotel will have a total of 89 units, including the 25 two-room suites, and it will offer amenities such as a guest laundry, continental breakfast and an indoor pool and hot tub.
A meeting room that will suit business clients and will accommodate about 75 people will be available for rent, Ferry said.
Room rates will average $85 to $135, Ferry said, but the rental rate for the meeting room hasn't yet been determined.
Ferry said the new hotel will require a staff of about 25 and she hopes to start hiring by the first of June. Meco Systems is the general contractor for the new hotel, and Pellham-Phillips-Hagerman is the architect.
