Hammons' probate claims unpacked

Posted online
Springfield Business Journal last week reported on the 16 creditors with claims totaling $369 million against the personal estate of late hotelier and philanthropist John Q. Hammons.

An inventory of Hammons’ personal asset leaves much to be desired for those making claims. The only asset that wasn’t part of his trust or that he didn’t share with wife Juanita Hammons was an old Ford van worth $1,577, resulting in an asset-to-claim ratio of $1-to-$234,247.

This week, SBJ reviewed the claims in Greene County Probate Court to reveal a web of bills across the country left after Hammons’ death. A few of the notable claims follow.
