Hammons plans hotel near Pikes Peak

Posted online
John Q. Hammons announced Tuesday his plans to develop his fourth Colorado property, a European-style Renaissance Hotel in Colorado Springs.

The 10-story, 320-room Marriott hotel will be managed by Springfield-based John Q. Hammons Hotels & Resorts and will be part of a planned regional shopping center, InterQuest Marketplace.

The hotel’s 80,000 square feet of meeting space will include a 40,000-square-foot ballroom and a view of Pikes Peak. Construction is slated to begin in March 2007, and completion is scheduled for spring 2009.

InterQuest Marketplace will have 800,000 square feet of retail space and will open its first round of stores in August 2007.

The development site is near a number of significant business hubs, such as FedEx Corp., Pikes Peak Community College, the U.S. Air Force Academy and Progressive Casualty Insurance Co.

“The area north of downtown Colorado Springs continues to experience impressive growth, making it an ideal location for affluent shopping and a premier luxury hotel,” Hammons said in a news release.

The Renaissance Hotel will be the fourth property managed by Hammons Hotels in Colorado. An Embassy Suites Hotel and convention center will be under construction within two months in Loveland, Colo. The company also owns and operates the Holiday Inn Denver International Airport Hotel and Convention Center and the Hilton Fort Collins near Colorado State University.[[In-content Ad]]
