Hammons plans $50M Oklahoma development

Posted online
Springfield-based John Q. Hammons Hotels and Resorts LLC announced Wednesday its plans to develop a $50 million hotel and conference center in Norman, Okla.

The 240-room Embassy Suites Hotel and the 65,000-square-foot conference center will be part of the University North Park mixed-use development, unveiled in December. That property is owned by the University of Oklahoma Foundation Inc.

Design of the Hammons project is under way, and construction is scheduled to begin next March.

The city of Norman will own the conference center for a cost of $15 million. Once completed, it will be managed by Hammons Hotels, which has three other Oklahoma properties located in Oklahoma City and Tulsa.

Hammons officials say the University of Oklahoma, located in Norman, drew the development to the city; the school is anxiously awaiting the project’s completion.

“With the continued growth of the university, it is absolutely critical that we have the ability to host national and international conferences and events, as well as a wide range of continuing education programs, as close to the university as possible,” said OU President David Boren in a news release.

The 585-acre University North Park development will have a major retail complex, lifestyle center, park, office complexes and multi-family housing projects.[[In-content Ad]]
