Hammons opens fifth North Carolina hotel

Posted online
John Q. Hammons Hotels & Resorts LLC on Jan. 19 celebrated the grand opening of its Embassy Suites Hotel Charlotte-Concord Resort and Spa, where last week more than 200 guests stayed to kick off the NASCAR racing season.

Springfield-based Hammons Hotels and its owner, John Q. Hammons, opened their fifth North Carolina property – a $60 million, 308-suite hotel and adjoining convention center with 80,000 square feet of meeting space.

“The Charlotte-Concord area is exploding with growth and opportunity, and we’re proud to contribute to the ongoing development by bringing an all-suites hotel and convention center to the market,” Hammons said in a news release.

More than 200 members of the media stayed at the resort as part of the speedway’s NASCAR Nextel Media Tour to kick off the racing season. In October, the resort was named the official hotel of the nearby Lowe’s Motor Speedway.

The hotel, which features an Internet café, spa, open garden atrium, fitness center, indoor pool and sundeck, overlooks the Rocky River Golf Club course, also managed by Hammons Hotels.
