Springfield-based John Q. Hammons Hotels & Resorts LLC is tapping into the tourism industry in Concord, N.C., by pairing its soon-to-be luxury hotel there with a nearby racing speedway and golf course.

Hammons Hotels announced this morning that it has agreed to a five-year partnership with Lowe’s Motor Speedway and has been awarded a five-year contract to manage the Rocky River Golf Club.

The speedway, located about a half-mile from the Hammons-owned Embassy Suites Hotel Charlotte-Concord Resort and Spa, holds six NASCAR events each year. The $60 million, 308-suite hotel and convention center is slated for completion early next year.

In an agreement effective in January, the Embassy Suites will be the official hotel of the speedway. The hotel will have an exclusive booking link on the speedway’s Web site, which receives 1.7 million visitors annually, and it will serve as the official host for the speedway’s NASCAR media tour in January.

Hammons’ Hotels also has signed on to manage the Rocky River Golf Club, located next to the Embassy Suites hotel.

“Bringing the golf club under our management along with the hotel and convention center creates an attractive package to convention planners and tourism, further strengthening the city’s prospering tourism economy,” Hammons Hotels CEO John Q. Hammons said in a news release.

Rocky River will remain a municipal course with no course rate increases unless approved by the Concord City Council.[[In-content Ad]]
