The 10-story building adjoins the city’s 150,000-square-foot Von Braun Center via a climate-controlled sky bridge. The opening of the hotel doubles the number of rooms in downtown Huntsville.
The hotel is expected to generate about $15 million annually to Huntsville’s economy, according to a Hammons Hotel news release. Initial group business sales for the hotel already have surpassed $2 million from groups such as the Alabama League of Municipalities and the Southern Association of State Highway & Transportation Officials.
This is Hammons’ second Alabama hotel, which will be owned by John Q. Hammons and managed by Hammons Hotels. The other is located in Montgomery.
Each guest suite at the new Embassy Suites features a private bedroom, living room, two televisions, refrigerator, microwave oven, coffee maker, two telephones, high-speed Internet access, video game console, work desk and in-room safe-deposit boxes. Hotel amenities include an atrium with a cascade and water trails, fitness center, indoor pool, sundeck, spa, Ruth’s Chris Steak House, Caffeina’s Marketplace, cooked-to-order breakfast and a nightly manager’s reception.
Also, a nearby bridge was named the John Q. Hammons Bridge and was dedicated in honor of the developer.
