The city will own the $21 million conference center. Both are expected to open in October 2008.
The 10-story hotel will have 283 rooms, including two presidential suites and two hospitality suites. Amenities will include a spa, fitness rooms, heated outdoor pool, full-service restaurant, coffee shop, atrium bar and business center.
The nearby conference center – the first of its kind in San Marcos – will have 40,000 square feet of meeting space that can be divided into 19 meeting rooms. It will include a 4,000-square-foot outdoor veranda, and a kitchen and catering center.
The location is near Interstate 35 and Texas State University, which has a student population of 27,500.
“This project will advance our economic tourism strategy and will bring many people to San Marcos,” said San Marcos Mayor Susan Narvaiz in a news release. “The Embassy Suites Hotel and our conference center will have a phenomenal impact on our city and this region.”
The project’s architect is Springfield firm Lohmeyer-Russell Architects PC; Tulsa, Okla.-based Flintco Inc. is the general contractor.
This will be Hammons’ seventh Texas hotel.
