Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon has wagered black walnut and chocolate candy from Stockton-based Hammons Black Walnuts on the outcome of the Oct. 30 Big 12 North game in Lincoln, Neb., between the Missouri Tigers and the Nebraska Cornhuskers.
Nixon made the wager with Nebraska Gov. Dave Heineman, who has offered up steaks from Omaha, Neb.-based Omaha Steaks as his side of the bargain, according to a news release from Gov. Nixon's office.
Additionally, Nixon wagered a Missouri hand crafted walnut bowl and fishing lures from Caruthersville-based Grizzly Jig Co.
“It will be a special day in Lincoln, and Mizzou will beat Nebraska 27-17 in our last appearance at Memorial Stadium,” Nixon predicted in the release. “I appreciate Gov. Heineman’s willingness to wager and look forward to comparing Nebraska beef to America’s finest beef: a Missouri born-and-bred KC Strip.”
Gov. Heineman added his support for the Cornhuskers, ranked 14th in the Bowl Championship Series standings. The Tigers are ranked No. 6.
“Saturday will be an exciting game,” Gov. Heineman said in the release. “In a defensive struggle, the Blackshirts will prevail. I’m looking forward to sharing Missouri candy with Coach (Bo) Pelini and the Huskers.”
The game is to be nationally televised at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, on ESPN, according to its
Web site.
