The Broadway touring show of "Hamilton" was big business for the Queen City.
The live musical generated an estimated economic impact of roughly $10.7 million, according to a news release from the venue. Tickets sales were more than $3.3 million, and some 32,000 patrons viewed the show during its 16-performance run at Juanita K. Hammons Hall for the Performing Arts.
"We have been blown away by the response to this engagement," Hammons Hall Executive Director Keith Boaz said in the release. "With patrons coming to Springfield from more than 20 states, the economic impact of this show on our local economy is far-reaching. In addition to the sales tax generated, restaurants, hotels and retail establishments have all benefited from the number of visitors in town for this incredible show.”
The performance run of "Hamilton" at the 2,200-seat Hammons Hall concluded March 5.
"Hamilton" joins the best-performing shows at Hammons Hall.
Josh Inmon, assistant director of Hammons Hall, told Springfield Business Journal in an article last year that “Wicked” in 2016 and “The Lion King” in 2019 each brought 33,000 people and nearly $10 million into the local economy.
Downtown flower shop Funky Flaura’s Unique Floral Designs LLC opened; Jordan Valley Community Health Center moved in Republic; and The Jackson Grille got its start in Marshfield.
