Halliburton says it will eliminate at least 5,000 jobs

Oil and gas drilling services company Halliburton said Tuesday that it will eliminate at least 5,000 jobs in response to falling oil prices.

The Associated Press reports the Houston company will lay off 6.5 to 8 percent of its total staff.  The cuts will affect all areas of operations.

The move comes after Halliburton fired about 1,000 from its Eastern hemisphere workforce in December.
