Hackers use FAFSA to steal $30M from IRS

Hackers have stolen up to $30 million from the IRS using a financial aid tool for college students.

Nearly 100,000 people are said to be at risk of identify theft. Hackers breached the IRS's Data Retrieval Tool, which parents use to transfer financial information to their kids using the Free Application for Federal Student Aid.

During 2015, 17 million students used FAFSA to file for financial aid.
