Hackers infiltrate free PC cleaning software

Posted online

Hackers managed to infiltrate British software firm Piriform's free PC cleaning software CCleaner.

Through the attack, said to affect more than 2 million computers, hackers placed malware into a new version of CCleaner released in August, according to CNNTech.

Through the malware, hackers were able to control infected computers.

Piriform has since updated the platform and worked with law enforcement to shut down the hacker's server "before any known harm was done."
