Habitat build blitz begins July 17

Posted online
Habitat for Humanity of Springfield has plans to build a new house in five days amount of time.

The local organization is teaming with Coldwell Banker Vanguard, Realtors and the Price Cutter Charity Championship to build the first new home in Legacy Trails, the new 56-home Habitat subdivision in north Springfield.

The two-bedroom house will be constructed at Highland Springs Country Club, just outside the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame, before being moved to its permanent location in Legacy Trails.

Legacy Trails, set for completion in 2011, is the second Habitat model community in Springfield; McAl subdivision in north Springfield is completely built out, with the last house dedicated April 29.

The five-day build for the Legacy Trails house begins July 17, and visitors will be welcome to visit the build site throughout the week as well as during the last-nail ceremony at 3 p.m. July 21.

Tours of the completed home will be held Saturday and Sunday during the Price Cutter Charity Championship presented by Dr Pepper.

Home buyer families are selected based on need, ability to repay a low-cost mortgage and willingness to participate in all aspects of the program.

Once selected, families complete at least 350 hours of “sweat equity” by volunteering with Habitat to help construct their own homes. [[In-content Ad]]
