Guaranty Federal announces earnings

Second-quarter earnings per share rose 47 percent from the same quarter in 2004 at Springfield-based Guaranty Federal Bancshares Inc., the holding company for Guaranty Bank.

Earnings rose from $1.02 million a year ago, or 36 cents per share, to $1.45 million, or 53 cents per share.

The company reported a 43 percent increase in net income. Earnings per diluted share for the second quarter ended at 50 cents per share, compared to 35 cents a year ago.

Guaranty also reported an increase in net interest income of 29 percent over last year’s second quarter.

Total assets increased $23 million, or 5 percent, from fourth quarter 2004. Loans grew $29 million, or 7 percent.

Guaranty Bank has seven branches and 20 ATMs in Greene and Christian counties.

Guaranty Federal Bancshares stock (Nasdaq: GFED) closed July 15 at $24.83 per share.
