Guaranty ends 2006 with 10% earnings increase

Guaranty Federal Bancshares Inc., the holding company for Springfield-based Guaranty Bank, Tuesday reported a double-digit percentage increase in earnings per share for the third year in a row.

Diluted earnings per share in 2006 increased 10.4 percent to $2.25, from $2.03 in 2005.

Net earnings for the year were $6.5 million, up 10 percent. Net interest income also rose by 15 percent.

Assets totaled $525 million, a 9 percent hike from $481 million a year earlier.

For fourth-quarter 2006, earnings were $1.74 million, compared to $1.65 million in fourth-quarter 2005. Diluted earnings per share were up 8.9 percent to 61 cents.

Highlights of the year included Guaranty’s plan, announced in July, to repurchase up to 250,000 shares of its common stock. As of Dec. 31, 86,523 shares had been repurchased at an average cost of $28.62 per share.

In September, Guaranty opened loan production offices in West Plains and Mountain Grove.

Guaranty Bank has eight branch locations in Greene and Christian counties.

Shares of the holding company’s stock (Nasdaq: GFED) closed Wednesday at $29.05, compared to a 52-week range of $27.45 to $30.59.
