Grass Roots Organization is committed to doing something about it.
The Mexico, Mo.-based organization traveled to Springfield Aug. 18 to meet with about 35 people who are feeling the effects of $580.6 million in cuts. The Missouri legislature passed Gov. Matt Blunt’s recommended cuts in the state budget for fiscal year 2006, which began July 1.
GRO members also did door-to-door surveys of 130 people who have been cut from Medicaid.
“The stories we’ve come across are so motivating,” said GRO Executive Director Robin Acree. “These cuts are deep.”
Acree, who co-founded the group, said the organization will compile the survey results and consumer testimonies and “build momentum around the appeal for this law.”
People filled out post cards detailing their ideas for improving Missouri health care, and Acree said the cards will be mailed to Blunt and state legislators.
Acree asks anyone who has been affected by cuts in Medicaid funding to contact GRO at (573) 581-9595 or at its Web site.
