Greene County signs six-year lease with CoxHealth

Greene County signed a six-year agreement with CoxHealth to lease the 10th floor of its north-side medical tower.

The county will pay $100,178 annually for the 1443 N. Robberson Ave. space, where it will relocate its public administrator’s office and the Greene County Youth Academy day treatment center from the Hogan Building. The lease agreement includes utilities, maintenance and cleaning costs, and the county can move in as soon as October, according to a news release.

County commissioners opted a lease rather than renovate the Hogan Building — located across from the courthouse on the corner of Central and Boonville avenues — to the tune of $615,000.

“We weren’t prepared to put that amount of money into this building we knew had major issues, but we also knew we needed to provide a better space for our employees and their clients — in some cases those include young kids and people with disabilities,” Presiding Commissioner Bob Cirtin said in the release.

At the CoxHealth tower, renovation expenses are expected to be minimal.

Once relocated, the county plans to demolish the Hogan Building, which in 1995 was deemed unsafe by the Springfield-Greene County Health Department but has been propped up with county funds. It will immediately be used for parking, but the commission is considering the space for a jail expansion, according to the release.

The county yesterday announced it entered a lease agreement with Seymour-based All Detainment Solutions to put up temporary jail structures in November on the lot east of the Greene County Jail and north of the commission’s office at 933 N. Robberson Ave.
