Greene County Recorder of Deeds Linda Montgomery announced Wednesday that she is retiring at the completion of her current term.
“It has been my privilege and honor to serve the citizens of Greene County,” said Montgomery, a 26-year Greene County employee, in a news release. “I greatly appreciate the voters' confidence by electing me to four terms as their recorder.”
Montgomery took office in 1995 and has overseen numerous transitions in the office: movement from a paper-based system to an electronic system, including automated receipts; digitizing microfilm; electronic recording; putting marriage and real-estate license indexes on the county Web site; scanning of all plats and surveys; digitizing and preserving old books; and increasing the number of computers available for public use.
Before taking elected office, Montgomery worked for the county as executive secretary to then-Presiding Commissioner Mike Compton. She later moved on to serve as office manager for the Greene County Commission.
Montgomery's last day in office is Dec. 31.[[In-content Ad]]
