Greene County launches discount drug program

Posted online
Greene County officials Sept. 26 launched a free prescription drug discount card program that they say will offer an average 20 percent savings on prescription drugs.

The cards are free to all Greene County residents regardless of age, income or whether they have health insurance.

The cards are available through the National Association of Counties, a nonprofit organization that represents more than 3,000 county governments in the United States. The county association is partnering with Caremark Rx Inc. to offer the program to member counties at no cost to taxpayers.

“We know that rising health care costs are a big problem for residents of Greene County, and we are very happy to be able to offer this small relief,” Greene County Associate Commissioner Roseann Bentley said in a news release.

Bentley helped bring the discount-drug program to the county.

Cards are available at several locations in the community, including Jordan Valley Health Center, Springfield-Greene County libraries and the Springfield-Greene County Health Department.

According to the release, more than 70 pharmacies in Greene County will honor the discount cards, and they are accepted by more than 57,000 pharmacies nationwide.

A list of participating Greene County pharmacies is available at https://naco.advancerx.com.

The discount card can be used in place of prescription drug insurance or by those who do not have insurance coverage. The card may offer better savings than insurance, or it may cover drugs not included in some insurance plans.

One card works for an entire family, and there is no limit to how many times a card can be used.
