Phase I comprises the distribution of vouchers to high-risk patients who need flu shots, according to a news release from the coalition. At-risk individuals are those who are older than 65, adults with chronic health conditions, women who will be pregnant during flu season and those who will be in contact with sick people or people in nursing homes or other long-term-care facilities. Health care workers, also considered a high-risk group, are encouraged to get their flu shots through their employers or physicians.
Using the voucher system, high-risk patients will be able to reserve flu vaccine and select a clinic site in advance.
Vouchers are available:
• 8:30 a.m.–4:30 p.m. Oct. 15–19 at Southwest Missouri Office on Aging, 1735 S. Fort Ave.;
• 8:30 a.m.–4:30 p.m. Oct. 15–16 and Oct. 18–19 at Jordan Valley Community Health Center, 630 W. Kearney; and
• 8:30 a.m.–4:30 p.m. Oct. 15–19 at Northview Senior Center, 301 E. Talmage.
Immunization clinics will be open 7 a.m.–noon on these dates and at these locations:
• Oct. 22 at Doling Family Center, 301 E. Talmage;
• Oct. 23 at Doctors Hospital, 2828 N. National Ave;
• Oct. 24 at St. Agnes School, 531 S. Jefferson Ave.;
• Oct. 25 at St. John’s Cancer Center, 2055 S. Fremont, second floor; and
• Oct. 26 at Cox Meyer Center, 3545 S. National, conference room B.
Vouchers must be presented at the clinics to receive flu shots.
Vaccine for the clinics is being made available by the members of the Springfield Flu Immunization Coalition, including the Springfield-Greene County Health Department, Greene County Medical Society and local hospitals.
