Great Southern to relocate Kearney Street branch

Posted online
Great Southern Bank on the corner of Kansas Expressway and Kearney Street will be moving locations by the end of next March - but it won’t be moving far.

The new location, 1805 W. Kearney St., is only one block west of the current branch, which - based on the number of transactions - is the second-busiest branch operated by Great Southern Bancorp Inc. The 1451 E. Battlefield Road branch is the holding company's busiest bank in the five-state franchise, according to Great Southern spokeswoman Kelly Polonus.

The general contractor of the project is Morelock-Ross Builders Inc. According to a city building permit, the estimated cost of the project is $550,000, and demolition work has been performed at the property.

"(The current location) is really hard to get in and out of, being on the corner,” Polonus said. “I think customers will enjoy the move because access to the bank will be much easier.”

The new location will have more drive-through lanes with 2,962 square feet, roughly twice the size of the existing branch.

The existing branch has 12 employees, and Polonus said she doesn’t believe any new hires will occur. She also confirmed bank hours would not change.

"The new banking center will provide customers with a better overall experience,” Great Southern President and CEO Joseph W. Turner said in a press release. "Customers can expect to see the same familiar faces at Kansas and Kearney serving them seven days a week.”[[In-content Ad]]
