Great Southern Bank on Friday will begin a food drive to aid Ozarks Food Harvest's food pantries and feeding sites.
The drive, set for Sept. 9-23, will start at Great Southern's 2449 S. Campbell Ave. branch and will expand to all of the bank's Springfield branches. A virtual food drive also is taking place on Ozarks Food Harvest's
Web site, according to a news release.
Great Southern has said it will donate $1 - up to $1,000 - for every pound of food collected.
In addition, the company has pledged $30,000 for Ozarks Food Harvest's Weekend Backpack Program, which provides weekend meals for at-risk students.
“We are grateful for the support of community partners like Great Southern to help fight hunger in Missouri,” Ozarks Food Harvest President and CEO Bart Brown said in the release. “While donations have dropped dramatically since the months following the Joplin disaster, our food pantries and feeding sites’ efforts have increased significantly across southwest Missouri.”
The Great Southern food drive comes during
Hunger Action Month, a nationwide initiative to fight hunger.
