The acquisition of the travel agency was effective Jan. 30, but the name change won’t occur until late this summer when Great Southern officials relocate the agency to the new bank branch, scheduled to open at that time.
Great Southern officials would not disclose the purchase price for the travel agency.
The agency has three employees who will remain on staff. Owner Barbara Prestage will serve as local office manager, and two travel consultants will continue in their current positions.
Prestage founded Classic Cruise and Travel in 1980 to serve both leisure and corporate travel needs.
“Classic Cruise and Travel is an outstanding travel agency known for its outstanding service in the Lee’s Summit area,” said Kris Conley, Great Southern Travel executive, in a news release. “They have developed client relationships through the years, and we are excited about the contributions this agency and its employees will make to Great Southern Travel.”
Great Southern Bank announced in August its new Lee’s Summit branch, which will be the bank’s 35th location and its first in the Kansas City metropolitan area.
Great Southern Travel operates 14 offices throughout the Ozarks.
