Great Southern consolidates 2 south-side branches

Great Southern Bank has consolidated two branches on the south side.

The branches at 600 W. Republic Road and 2945 W. Republic Road combined operations effective Jan. 12, said Great Southern Bank spokesperson Kelly Polonus. The surviving building is 2945 W. Republic.

"After a thorough evaluation of customer usage and proximity to other nearby Great Southern offices, the decision was made to consolidate this location," Polonus said via email of 600 W. Republic. "All associates at the 600 location were transferred to other Great Southern banking centers."

An interactive teller machine is available at the 600 W. Republic property, said Polonus, noting officials plan to sell the 6,200-square-foot building.

Operations at the 600 W. Republic branch started in 2012, when the location replaced a former Great Southern office at 3961 S. Campbell Ave., Polonus said.

Great Southern held a groundbreaking ceremony in early 2007 for the 2,500-square-foot branch at 2945 W. Republic, according to Springfield Business Journal archives.

The consolidation of the two Republic Road branches was reported in parent company Great Southern Bancorp Inc.'s (Nasdaq: GSBC) fourth-quarter and full-year earnings report released this week.

Great Southern Bank recorded 2023 profits of $67.8 million, a nearly 11% decrease year over year, according to past reporting. The company operated 89 branches across six states at the end of 2023.

GSBC shares were trading at $56.01 as of 9:56 a.m., compared with a 52-week range of $45.39 to $61.94 per share.
