Great Southern buys second Columbia travel agency

Posted online
Great Southern Travel announced Friday it will purchase a Columbia travel agency, its second acquisition in that market in less than a year.

The agreement to acquire Global Travel and Vacations, 1400 Forum Blvd., is effective Aug. 1.

Great Southern Travel, a division of Springfield-based Great Southern Bank, in August 2005 acquired Canterbury Travel and Tiger Travel Associates in Columbia. In March, Great Southern Bank also announced plans to open a new loan production office in Columbia.

Global Travel and Vacations, which opened in 1958, is the oldest travel agency in Columbia and provides primarily leisure travel services. Its six staff members will remain with the company.
