Great Southern branch to open this weekend

Great Southern Bank is planning an April 29 opening date for its 1805 W. Kearney St. bank, which replaces a former branch about a block away at the corner of Kansas Expressway and Kearney Street.

“We are excited about the opening of the new building, which we feel will offer customers a better overall experience,” Great Southern President and CEO Joe Turner said in a news release.

With nearly 3,000 square feet, the new location is roughly twice the size of the existing branch. According to Springfield Business Journal archives, Morelock-Ross Builders Inc. served as general contractor for the roughly $555,000 project.

Shannon Cox leads the West Kearney Street branch, which employs 11 others, the release said.

The company is planning a May 24 grand opening for the branch, including a ribbon-cutting ceremony with Springfield Area Chamber of Commerce.
