Great Southern Bank has held its No. 1 ranking in deposit market share in the Springfield metro area for nine consecutive years.
The Federal Deposit Insurance Corp.'s annual summary of deposits report, released Sept. 19, shows that financial institutions in the Springfield metropolitan statistical area recorded total deposits of $17.2 billion as of June 30, up from $16.4 billion at the same time in 2024.
This year's FDIC report shows Great Southern Bank had $2.31 billion in MSA deposits, or roughly 13.5% of the market share as of this summer. No. 2 was Guaranty Bank, with $1.7 billion, or 9.9% of the market share, and No. 3 was Central Bank, listed on the FDIC report as The Central Trust Bank, at nearly $1.5 billion and 8.6% market share. All three held their spots from 2024.
Great Southern Bank has topped the list for 19 of the 31 years the FDIC has on record for deposit market share. It traded the top spot with Commerce Bank multiple times, and Boatmen’s Bank led 1995-97.
Commerce Bank is No. 5 in the 2025 report, with nearly $1.3 billion in deposits representing 7.5% of the market share. OMB Bank, with roughly $1.4 billion in deposits and 8.1% market share, jumped to No. 4 from No. 6 last year.
