Grants awarded to local fire departments

Posted online
Two southwest Missouri fire departments are among recipients of U.S. Assistance to Firefighters grants, Gov. Matt Blunt announced Wednesday.

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security has awarded Missouri $366,248 in grants for its fire departments and safety initiatives.

The largest portion of funding – $168,359 – will go to the Neosho Fire Department. The Nixa Fire Protection District also is a recipient of $4,950. Fire departments in Hawk Point and St. James will receive the remainder of grant money.

The funding will be used for training, personal protective and other equipment, wellness and fitness, and modifications to fire stations and facilities, according to a Blunt news release.
