Grandview mayor resigns amid FBI questions

Posted online
Following the sudden resignation of Grandview Mayor Steve Dennis on Jan. 10, two city leaders confirmed to KSHB-TV in Kansas City they had been questioned by the FBI about Dennis’ involvement with a now defunct nonprofit.

In 2012, the mayor of the Kansas City suburb created Matters of the Heart Inc., which was said to be a ministry outreach for the poor and disadvantaged, based on a description on file with the secretary of state. Dennis had listed two of his former colleagues on the Grandview Board of Aldermen as being on the organization’s board of directors.

However, those two colleagues filed a complaint in April with the secretary of state to have their names removed as they were not serving on the board. The mayor reportedly said the wrong paperwork had been filed with the state. One of the board of alderman members said he was questioned by the FBI about the mayor’s organization about six months ago. Still, several city leaders were shocked by the resignation, according to KSHB.
