Gov. Jay Nixon's planned trade mission to Taiwan and South Korea has been put on hold, according to a news release from his office.
"Because of travel challenges, Gov. Nixon’s upcoming trade mission has been postponed," Sam Murphey, Nixon spokesman, said in the release.
Murphey could not be reached for comment before deadline.
The trade mission, which was planned for Dec. 10-16, would have finalized a five-year, $600 million agreement with Taiwan for Missouri products, including corn and soybeans.
Nixon's delegation would have included Jon Hagler, director of the Missouri Department of Agriculture, David Ker, Director of the Missouri Department of Economic Development, Kelly Gillespie, executive director of the Missouri Biotechnology Association and representatives of companies and groups including Boeing Corp., the Missouri Chamber of Commerce and St. James Winery.
Nixon was scheduled to observe the signing of an annual $1.2 million sales agreement between Garden City-based NeCo Seeds and Taiwanese customer Central Union.
On Dec. 14, the delegation would have traveled to Seoul, South Korea, to mark the 60th anniversary of the beginning of the Korean War.
