Gov. Jay Nixon last week appointed former state Rep. Sara Lampe, D-Springfield, to the Missouri Commission on Human Rights.
Lampe, who termed out of the House after serving four terms 2005-13, has been selected for a term on the commission ending April 1, 2019, according to a news release.
The state commission investigates, holds public hearings and conducts litigation concerning discrimination in housing, employment and places of public accommodations.
A nearly 40-year teacher and administrator for Drury University and Springfield Public Schools, Lampe often advocated for public education while serving Missouri's 138th District in the House. Early last year, Lampe indicated she would run for the state's lieutenant governor position, but she was defeated in the August 2012 primaries by Susan Montee for the Democratic nomination, according to
Springfield Business Journal archives.
For the Missouri Commission on Human Rights, Nixon also appointed Anna Crosslin, president and CEO of the International Institute of St. Louis, the release said.
The appointments are subject to confirmation by the Missouri Senate.
