Gov. Jay Nixon will be in Springfield this afternoon to kick off a new program designed to encourage companies to hire military veterans.
The Show-Me Heroes initiative highlights companies that have taken a pledge to recruit and hire military veterans, according to information from the governor's Web site. Participating companies take an online pledge "to include Missouri veterans and/or members of our National Guard and Reserve among those considered for any job openings," according to the site.
Nixon will visit Ozarks Coca-Cola/Dr Pepper Bottling Co. at 12:30 p.m. to talk more about the program; the bottling company is one of 166 companies statewide that have already signed the pledge.
Other local companies that have signed up are Hiland Dairy Foods Co., Manpower, Missouri Department of Transportation District 8, Nursefinders, Penmac Personnel Services, Positronic Industries in Springfield and Western-Southern Financial Group in Springfield; Angel Inn and Amazinn & Suites in Branson; and Life Solutions LLC in Nixa.
Companies that participate are featured on the
state Web site and receive additional support from the state in finding qualified workers for job openings.
