About a year ahead of Missouri’s August 2016 primary election, the seven Republican candidates fighting to become the Show-Me State’s next governor are behind the proverbial money ball.
A St. Louis Post-Dispatch analysis of records reveals the seven GOP gubernatorial candidates held a combined total of about $3.3 million in campaign funds at the end of last week. Their individual totals ranged from less than $5,000 to just over $1.5 million.
By contrast, the lone Democratic gubernatorial candidate, Missouri Attorney General Chris Koster, boasted over $4 million on hand. And unlike the Republican field, the AG likely won’t have to spend much of that cash before the general election because he is facing no serious Democratic primary challenger.
