Google rating Internet service providers' video streaming quality

Posted online
In May, Google launched a website rating Internet service providers' video streaming quality, according to the Economic Times.

A link to the website appears when videos on Google's YouTube service are slow to buffer.

Google rates providers based on how quickly billions of hours of YouTube videos are loaded over a 30-day period, taking into consideration provider and location.

The website is intended to inform customers who want to view video in high-definition on how best to do it, YouTube Spokesman Matt McLernon, told the Economic Times.

According to the website, Mediacom is the only provider in the Springfield area listed under the category "YouTube HD Verified." All other local providers fall under "Standard Definition" or "Lower Defintion."
