Google Fiber considers expansion in Oklahoma City

Posted online
Google is considering Oklahoma City for a possible expansion of its high-speed broadband Internet and cable television service dubbed Google Fiber.

The company announced Wednesday it was adding Oklahoma City to its list of possible locales for expansion, alongside Jacksonville and Tampa, Fla.

Google plans to take an in-depth look at everything from the city’s existing infrastructure to its topography and geology to determine whether expansion is a good fit in Oklahoma’s capitol.

Google Fiber was first introduced in the Kansas City metro area in 2013 and has since expanded to several Kansas City suburbs, as well as Austin, Texas, and Provo, Utah.

The service also is expected to eventually come to Atlanta; Charlotte, Raleigh and Durham, N.C.; Nashville; Salt Lake City; and San Antonio.
