CNNMoney reports the days of deep discounts are over because companies are no longer courting customers as they were forced to do during the recent recession. Now, according to the report, they don't have to. People, emboldened by a strengthening economy, are once again spending money on luxuries like vacations.
Blame the price increases on Wall Street greed, CNNMoney says, as shareholders' expectations of higher earnings continue to trump customer service, and on buyers' perceptions that a higher price tag equates with higher quality.
