Good Company expands physical footprint

Posted online

Good Company, which has seen fast growth in recent years, has expanded its physical footprint in the area.

Company CEO Chad Carleton was interviewed live yesterday by Springfield Business Journal interim Editor Gregory Holman for the People You Need to Know series. The setting was The Backlot, Alamo Drafthouse Springfield's restaurant and bar.

"We just bought a new building. We're in 50,000 [square] feet over on the industrial alliance on west Kearney, and we're headed over to Strafford to a facility that will expand our capacity almost four times what it is right now," Carleton said.

Good Company operates in the third party logistics space, through which clients' items are stored and delivered. The company's headquarters is currently located in a 50,000-square-foot warehouse at 4230 W. Kearney St., according to past reporting.

Carleton described Good Company's client pipeline as "pretty healthy."

"A couple of them together would expand the business another 50% by themselves," Carleton said, referencing new Good Company clients. "Fortunately, the business is refreshingly straightforward: storage, labor, postage, overhead; these are the only thing that we manage."

Carleton described its 3PL business as simple in concept.

"We don't own any of the inventory on hand," Carleton said. "We're really just a facility that's governed by time and performance."

In the medium term, Carleton said Good Company may expand into Canada and western Europe.

"E-commerce makes the world small," he said. "Customers are everywhere for your product, and the internet is infinite real estate."

Good Company had $1 million in business in 2021, then $3.5 million in 2022, $7 million in 2023, $15 million in 2024 and $31 million in 2025, according to past reporting. Carleton said he would be happy with 50% growth this year.
