Goldman Sachs: The U.S. expansion ain't dead; it's not even old

If the average lifespan of an economic expansion is five years, and the current expansion began in 2009, does that mean the U.S. is about to slide into another recession?
 
Not according to an economist at Goldman Sachs, reports Bloomberg Businessweek. According to a published client note, Goldman's Kris Dawsey claims the expansion is in its "early-to-mid-cycle" and he doesn't see any "expansion-killers" such as inflationary overheating or financial imbalances threatening.
 
Dawsey reached this conclusion, the article states, using 15 factors that measure raw information such as fluctuations in stock prices and the ratio of applicants to job openings. The findings, he says, suggest the current economic expansion should continue at least into next year.
