Springfield-based mechanical contracting company Gold Mechanical Inc. has purchased a local plumbing business.
Ron Bogart, CEO of Gold Mechanical, said the company closed May 6 on the purchase of Springfield-based Masters Plumbing LLC from founder Jerry Kendall. Bogart declined to disclose the purchase price.
Masters Plumbing is retaining its name and its eight employees through the deal, Bogart said, with Kendall taking on a job at Gold Mechanical and all employees now working out of the acquiring company's headquarters at 4735 W. Division St. Masters Plumbing focuses on commercial services.
"This brought on a new segment of the business," Bogart said. "We were subcontracting out some of our plumbing because we lacked the tools and the talent. That's what this acquisition did, is it filled in a gap that we had."
He added, "There are a ton of residential plumbing companies in this market, but there's not very many good commercial plumbing companies."
Masters Plumbing’s website indicates the company was formed in 2017 by Kendall, who has more than 30 years of experience.
The purchase of Masters Plumbing represents the first acquisition for Gold Mechanical, which was founded in 1987. Bogart said the company has been in the market for acquisitions for around a decade.
"I have looked at 20 deals probably and none of them ever fit right," he said. "Nothing's perfect, but we felt like this was as close to perfect as you can get.
"Now that we know what a good fit looks like, it's sharpened our focus, and maybe we can get lucky and hit another one or two."
Gold Mechanical was among the honorees for Springfield Business Journal's recent Dynamic Dozen awards, for which the company reported 2024 revenue of $60.8 million, representing three-year growth of 53.7%. Its 2022-24 employee count grew 34.3% to 180.
