GM to seek court protection against ignition suits

General Motors is asking a U.S. bankruptcy court to halt lawsuits against the company related to ignition-switch defects linked to at least 13 deaths.

The automaker, which has recalled 2.6 million cars because of the defect, is seeking protection from lawsuits, claiming the suits violate GM’s 2009 bankruptcy orders.

GM states the reorganized company is protected against claims filed against the pre-bankruptcy company.
