General Motors yesterday announced it would cut 15 percent of its salaried North American workforce.
With the move, it will end production of some underperforming vehicles and halt production at plants in Lordstown, Ohio, Hamtramck, Michigan, and Oshawa, Ontario.
Additionally, plants in White Marsh, Maryland, and Warren, Michigan, will be "unallocated," GM officials said.
"Actions are being taken to reduce salaried and salaried contract staff by 15 percent, which includes 25 percent fewer executives to streamline decision making," CEO Mary Barra said.
The moves may affect Chevrolet Impala and Cadillac XTS sedans, as well as final assembly of Silverado and Sierra pickup trucks.
