Posted online
General Motors Co. is recalling 1.4 million vehicles in a third attempt to fix potential fire hazards.

The fire hazard is caused by oil leaking onto a hot manifold. A GM spokesman said about 85 percent of the fires occurred while the vehicles were shut off.

The Detroit-based automaker reported 1,345 vehicles caught fire after dealers fixed them. Previous recalls for the same problem in 2007 and 2009 included 1.1. million of those included in the new recall, according to CNNMoney.

The recall includes several Pontiac and Oldsmobile models, some dating back to 1997. Although the brands are no longer manufactured, owners can take vehicles to Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet and Cadillac dealerships for recall repairs.
