GM posts higher-than-expected profit

General Motors Co. posted a higher-than-expected profit for the third quarter on strong demand in its home North American market and in China, according to Reuters.

The company recorded net income of $1.38 billion, up from $698 million a year earlier.

Revenue rose slightly to $39.3 billion.
