General Motors offered to convert $2.2 billion in debt owed by its South Korean operation into equity in exchange for financial support and tax benefits from the country, sources familiar with the matter told Reuters.
According to Reuters, the debt for equity swap would mean GM would continue operating in South Korea.
The Detroit automaker recently announced plans to close one of its four plants in the country.
