GM, Lyft to test self-driving taxis

General Motors and Lyft plan to start within a year testing a fleet of self-driving Chevrolet Bolt electric taxis on public roads.

The plan comes a few months after GM invested $500 million in ride-hailing service Lyft, a rival to Uber.

Central to the initiative is GM's separate $1 billion planned purchase of San Francisco-based Cruise Automation Inc., which develops autonomous-driving technology.
